Pink Perseverance – Fighting for the Cause

Tell us a little about your non-profit:

Pink Perseverance, Inc. was created by myself (Linda Whitlock, President/Founder), a 9 1/2 year breast cancer survivor, and my husband, Delvin (Vice-President/Co-Founder), because we wanted to give back because of our own person experience with breast cancer. Our organization is dedicated to talking to women and their families about the importance of taking control of their breast health. We highly encourage women of all ages and ethnicities to have annual mammograms and to faithfully perform their monthly self-examinations. We are also dedicated to talking to men about their own breast health because breast cancer is not just a women’s disease, and to encourage them to be better caregivers to the women in their lives going through this disease.

Our mission is to educate and bring awareness to women and their families through our programs and events. We have several programs such as our “Hand In Hand” program which assists women with healthcare co-pays to purchase items such as bras, prosthesis, and wigs. We also have a program called “Men Care 2” which assists men to be supportive caregivers as well as educate them on their own breast health.

What makes your cause special?

We believe that our cause is special because it affects over 200,000 women each year in the United States alone and one percent of men. Everyone you could ever meet has been touched by breast cancer in some form, so it is very important that we continue to spread the word and strive to find a cure. We also know that breast cancer does not discriminate. It affects women (and men) of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds, so we are dedicated to assisting as many people and families as we possibly can with this disease.

Where did you first hear about Fresh Look Web Design?

We were looking to have our website redone for a more professional look after the initial launch of Pink Perseverance, Inc. and we wanted to find someone in the local area to do it. I looked on the internet and came across Fresh Look Web Design and checked out the website. I was very impressed by the sample websites that were on the site and contacted them to assist us. We have been so pleased with the results. Our website looks great and we’ve enjoyed a great, professional relationship with Fresh Look and look forward to continuing that relationship in the future.

Would you recommend Fresh Look to a friend, and why?

Yes, absolutely! The packages that Fresh Look provides are very reasonable, and we feel that our website needs have been taken care of very professionally and they are very accommodating to our requests for updates.

It’s been a great relationship and we’re looking forward to upgrading our website with Fresh Look in the near future.

Tell us about your big event, the Spirit of Hope Dinner/Dance

Pink Perseverance, Inc. has several events during the year to assist with raising funds for our programs to assist women and their families. However, our biggest event of the year and our biggest fundraiser is our “2nd Annual Spirit of Hope” Dinner Dance which is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2014 and will be held at Langley AFB, Va. at 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm. This is an annual black tie event where we honor four breast cancer survivors who have been selected by our committee, we have a guest speaker, praise dancers, and we give an annual donation towards breast cancer research to an organization or facility doing wonderful work in that field. Last year we donated to Eastern Virginia Medical School for breast cancer research and next year another facility will be selected.

This event is a wonderful evening of uplifting, encouraging, and educational words from breast cancer survivors, physicians, and family members touched by this disease. It is a celebration of life, courage, and hope. This event is open to the public to attend.

Where do proceeds go?

Proceeds from the event will go to our “Hand In Hand” and “Men Care 2” programs. In addition we have an annual luncheon called our “Enrichment Luncheon” which focuses on education and uplifting information for guests and will benefit our programs. We have a silent auction of donated items and vendors for guests to shop. This event will be held at Schlesinger’s Restaurant located in Port Warwick, Newport News, Va. and is scheduled this year for Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Our guest speaker for the event will be Ms. Golden Bethune-Hill, the Founder of the Community Free Clinic of Newport News, VA.
